Skitch
Skitch is a free iPad app that allows you to take photos, write and draw on them, and then either save to a camera roll or email them to yourself. You can also navigate to a web page, take a snapshot of it, and then make alterations to it.
Instagram2.0
Apple claims that this is one of its most popular apps. Instagram2.0 allows you to take and share photos with friends around the world. You will need to log in, but the app is free. Note: Mike Krieger, the founder of Instagram, was one of the luminaries sitting with First Lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union Speech. Quoting the White House: Instagram is “the fastest growing social mobile startup in the U.S. today, with over 15 million registered users”.
Apple and textbooks
By now you have probably heard the controversy about Apple's upgrade to the iBooks app so that it can provide textbooks. Apparently the original idea came from an app called Inkling 101 but the concept is brilliant. For roughly $15.00 each, Apple will be offering textbooks for students, eliminating purchasing them, lugging them around, massaging sore shoulders, etc. Two new apps will be involved, iBook Author, allowing writers and publishers to present texts in iPad format; and iBook2, which will include several new study features including flash cards and links to resources. If successful, it could revolutionize the education industry. Here are some of the online comments about this new feature:
